Step 1 - Click the 'Add a New Website' button

From the Launchpad, click the 'Add new Website' button or use the property drop-down switcher.

Step 2 - Enter the site URL

Enter the website’s canonical URL (considering HTTPS and www or non-www).

Click the down arrow to open 'Optional Settings' if you wish to add a filter to the site.

When adding a Search Console site property to SEOTesting you can filter the data by geographical region, search type, page, and query.

The SEOTesting dashboard, reports, and rank tracking will all then be based around these filters when looking at this new site in SEOTesting.

Country filter - if you want to filter the dashboard and all reports by geographical region. Page filter - useful when you want to add a sub-section or group of pages to SEOTesting. Query filter - useful if you want to remove brand or non-brand traffic from a site property added to SEOTesting.

Please remember that you cannot change these filter settings later without deleting the website and adding a new one.

How to delete a site on SEOTesting

This guide will help you delete a site from the SEOTesting app.

Step 1 - Go to Account

Click on the 'Account' tab on the left-side menu.

Step 2 - Go to 'Site Management'

Go to the 'Site Management' tab.

Step 3 - Select the site

Click on the site name you wish to delete.

Step 4 - Delete the site.

Scroll to the end of the page and press the 'Delete Site' button.

Step 5 - Confirm the process

The last step is to type 'DO IT' inside the text field and confirm the site deletion.

After you delete the site, you will be redirected to the SEOTesting Launchpad.

What are Annotations?

Annotations are a feature within SEOTesting that allows you to add descriptive annotations directly onto your data from Google Search Console, as shown in the screenshot below.

SEOTesting takes its data directly from the Google Search Console API, meaning the data you see within SEOTesting is precisely the same data you’d see in Google Search Console. We allow you to add annotations to the site, page, query, or content group.

Adding annotations to your Google Search Console data lets you and your team know about events, changes made to your site, or any other outside factor that might affect how your website performs within search results.

Annotation Types

SEOTesting offers four annotation types:

Page annotations
Query annotations
Site annotations
Content group annotations

We know that implementing an annotation across your entire site data may not be necessary in some circumstances, so we have added alternative options for you.

Page Annotation

Page annotations allow you to add annotations that only appear when you search directly for that page within SEOTesting. This is useful if you experience outside factors that impact the organic search performance of the page in question.

What is Brand vs non-brand report and how to use it

The Brand vs Non-Brand report in SEOTesting will give you an overview of your site's performance in Google search results from a Brand and Non-Brand query perspective.

The data for this report is pulled from Google Search Console.

How the Report Works

The Brand vs Non-Brand report has a textbox where you can enter your brand keywords.

In this report, you must use a Regex format for your brand keywords.

For example, you might enter the following brand keywords if you worked for AutoTrader: auto|trade

The report will then complete two Search Console data requests.

One request with a REGEX “including” filter to get the data for your brand keywords and one request with a REGEX “excluding” filter, which will fetch all of your non-brand data.

Once SEOTesting has completed the two Search Console data requests, 4 graphs will be plotted within your report.

On each graph, it will plot the data points for brand and non-brand.

Your brand metrics will be displayed as a blue line on all your graphs, and your non-brand metrics will be shown as a purple line.

Split Test Group Configuration Tool

Date range for pages is website max processed date (or today if max processed date not set) - 90 days.

The split test config tool works on an alternating allocation basis.

It gets Search Console click data for the URLs in question, and then in order, allocates them to the test or control group. This allocation is also based on potential removal decided by the following:

Anomaly:

When a URL has an extremely high number of clicks
We calculate the mean and standard deviation of clicks for all pages and mark pages as anomalies if their click count deviates from the mean by more than 2 standard deviations.

LowClicks:

The page has had 0 clicks for more than half of the 90 days, so it is excluded from the results

NoGscData:

We did not find any gsc data for this page

GroupsFull:

Both groups are at maximum capacity in terms of URL count, so this page is excluded

OR

If one of the groups is at maximum capacity, and the sum of the clicks in the other group is greater than the full group, we exclude the page to maintain an event split

This guide will explain the Site Changelog feature within SEOTesting, available via the navigation link on the left-hand toolbar.

What is the Site Changelog

The Site Changelog in SEOTesting addresses two customer pain points:

As part of monthly or quarterly reporting, remembering past changes that have been made to a site
People leaving the business that have the change history of a site stored in their heads

That's where the Site Changelog comes in. When you create SEO tests and add custom annotations in SEOTesting, the Site Changelog logs it all on one page.

This gives you a complete record of when and what changes were made.

SEOTesting displays the data separated by month in reverse chronological order, in a table format with the following format:

Title: This is the name of the SEO test or annotation.
Description: The details of the work done as it appears on the SEO test or annotation.
Tags: When you create an SEO test, you can assign a tag, which is displayed here.
Change Type: This tells you whether the change was part of an SEO test or if a new annotation has been added.
Value: This is the URL or URLs impacted by the change.
Date: The date the change was mad
