Forecasting
What is Forecasting in SEOTesting?
Forecasting in SEOTesting uses your site's historical Google Search Console performance data to predict clicks and impressions for the next six months, using advanced forecasting models that account for trends and seasonality.
Use Forecasting to set realistic SEO growth targets, estimate future traffic potential, compare predicted performance against actual results, and better plan SEO strategies based on data-driven projections rather than assumptions.
The Forecast button on each individual site’s dashboard in SEOTesting will allow you to generate a 6 month forecast for overall site performance based on historical data for:
- Clicks
- Impressions
How to view Forecasting in SEOTesting
From the Dashboard you will need to select the site you wish to view the forecast for. Then click on the Actions button on the top right of your screen, and select Forecast from the drop-down options:

*From here, you can create your forecast to view, or select any that have already been created.

SEOTesting archives the overall site performance each day. This means as you use SEOTesting you’ll have access to more than 16 months of data. The longer you have been using SEOTesting the more site performance data we have to generate a forecast which will include seasonal and monthly trends.
SEOTesting has two forecasting models:
- Facebook Prophet
- SSA
Facebook Prophet
Facebook Prophet is an open-source time series forecasting tool developed by Meta (formerly Facebook). It’s designed to make forecasts for time series data that show clear seasonal patterns and trends.
You can learn more about Facebook Prophet here.
SSA
Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA) is a method for time-series decomposition and forecasting. SSA is based on linear algebra techniques to extract meaningful patterns (like trend, seasonality, and noise) from time series data.
You can learn more about SSA forecasting here.
Comparing saved forecast to actual performance
It’s best to run both forecasting models for your site and see which generates the future click performance you find most likely (or appealing). Each time a forecast is run, it’s saved, so you can see how actual months stack up against a forecast.

Once a forecast is run and saved, via the Forecasting dialog and Saved tab you can:
- View a forecast
- Set a forecast as the default (using the Edit button)
- Delete a forecast
Whenever you switch to the monthly tab on the dashboard, if you have a default forecast set, it will load automatically.
