Zero-Click Searches Report
What is the Zero-Click Searches Report in SEOTesting?
The Zero-Click Searches Report surfaces queries you rank for with an average position of less than 10, where you receive a healthy number of impressions, but hardly any clicks.
When a query generates plenty of impressions, there is search volume behind it and your page is showing in the results. If those impressions are not translating into clicks, a common reason is an AI Overview sitting at the top of the search result, answering the searcher's question before they ever reach the organic listings.
You can narrow the report down further to focus on queries receiving zero clicks, or set your own threshold, depending on how you want to work through the data.
Why is this report useful?
The report gives you a focused to-do list of queries where an AI Overview is likely intercepting the clicks you would otherwise earn. From there, the goal is to get your page featured within the AI Overview itself.
Where to find the Zero-Click Searches Report in SEOTesting
Start on your SEOTesting dashboard and select the site you wish to view the report for, from the drop-down at the top of the page.
Then select the 'Reports' link on the left-hand toolbar:

Once the Reports area loads, select 'Potential Zero-Click Searches'. The report will then be pulled through automatically:

How to use the report on queries worth investigating:
- Check for an AI Overview: Open the search result for the query by clicking on the Google icon to the right of the query:

- Once loaded in Google, confirm whether an AI Overview is present (you may need to scroll down the page to see if there is an AI overview). A large sponsored area at the top can also be reducing clicks, so it is worth noting what sits above the organic results.
- Check whether you already appear: See if your page is cited as a source within the AI Overview, and whether the impressions are coming from your page or from the AI Overview itself.
- Work through the sources: If you are not featured, review the sources the AI Overview does cite and look for opportunities to get included as an alternative.
Some sources present better opportunities than others. A page that is simply a competitor's own comparison page is unlikely to feature you, but sources that publish "best alternatives" style content may be worth reaching out to for an opportunity to be included.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Why am I getting impressions but no clicks?
A frequent cause is an AI Overview appearing at the top of the search result. The AI Overview answers the searcher's question directly, so even though your page is ranking and generating impressions, searchers get what they need without clicking through. A large sponsored area above the organic results can also reduce clicks.
How do I get my page featured in an AI Overview?
Start by checking whether your page is already cited as a source. If it is not, review the sources the AI Overview does reference and look for ways to get mentioned, either by being quoted directly or by being included as a source. Reaching out to sites that publish "best alternatives" content covering your query can be an effective route to inclusion.
How is the report calculated?
The report pulls all the queries you appear for with an average position of less than 10 where you receive a decent number of impressions but hardly any clicks. You can filter this down to zero clicks, or set your own threshold.
