Long Tail Keywords Report

The Long Tail Keywords Report in SEOTesting helps you identify and track your site is ranking for long-tail keywords. This guide will discuss the Report, how to access it, and how to use it.

What is the Long Tail Keywords Report?

The Long Tail Keywords Report provides a list of more specific keywords, usually with three or more words, that have lower search volumes. Despite having lower volumes, long-tail keywords often indicate high intent from searchers and can lead to higher conversion rates.

The report shows the keywords you are ranking for based on the date range selected. By default, it is ordered to show the worst ranking queries first, as, in theory, these are at the end of your site's long tail.

The report includes key metrics for each long-tail keyword:
Keyword
Clicks
Impressions
CTR
Average Position

How do you use the report?

When you first see the report, you will be greeted with a performance chart showing the clicks your long-tail keywords have gained over the selected time period.

You can also choose to show impressions, average position, and CTR plotted on graphs by ticking the boxes below the graph.

Above the graph are green boxes that show your performance totals for the reporting period.

Note: The report shows the last seven days of data by default, but you can change this.

Scroll down on the report to see your complete list of long-tail keywords, with their performance data to the right of this. You can use the filtering options at the top of the list to refine your data:

You can filter your keywords based on the following query options:
Contains
Equals
Not Contains
Not Equals
Including RegEx
Excluding RegEx

You also have the option to use the same filters on a URL level.

For example, if I wanted to see only my long-tail keywords that included the word “testing,” then I could use the query contains filter to do this:

You will also find options to further filter your data next to the filter box at the top of your query list.

You can select the date range. By default, the report will show for the last seven days, but you have options to show:
Last 30 Days
Last 3, 6, 12, and 16 Months
This Month
Last Month
Custom Range

You can also tick the “Split by URL” box, which will configure the report to show each query along with the ranking URL for that query:

There is also a link to the Compare Periods Report within SEOTesting. Clicking this will take you to a new page showing query performance from the last seven days compared to the seven days before that:

If you click on the “Get KE Data” button, SEOTesting will automatically pull through Keywords Everywhere data for your long-tail queries, including:
Competition
Volume
CPC

Finally, clicking on the query itself will redirect you to the Query Details Report for that particular query, showing its performance over the past seven days:
