Click on the ‘SEO Tests’ link on the left-hand navigation bar:
Click on the button 'Create a new SEO Test'.
Click on the 'Create Group Test' button.
Fill in the test details, including:
Test name.
Description.
Test Type: pages or queries.
Test Values: URLs or queries.
Country Code.
Data the Change was Made.
Test Period.
Note: We recommend writing a description that will allow you to return to the test in the future and immediately identify its purpose and goal.
Click on the 'Create' button.
Choose the test dates and start the test.
On the second setup screen, based on the “Date the change was made” and “Test Period” selections, the control and test period will be pre-configured. Keep these as they are, or click on a date to move it.
From this screen, you can extend/shorten the control control or test period and also move the control period 12 months to do Year-on-year testing.
Several configuration options are available for Group Tests, including two Test Types:
Page: Analyze changes made to a group of pages.
Query: Analyze the impact on queries.
Group Tests can also be used on four Search Types: Web, Image, News, and Video.
The Optional Country Code field lets you tie the Group Test results to a specific country.
You must also set the date the change was made. Often, you will select today's date, but you can also choose a date from the past, allowing you to back-test changes made within the last 15 months.
Select a Test Period between 2-8 weeks when creating Group Tests.
By checking the box, you can also integrate Google Analytics 4 event tracking alongside your Group Test.
The next page shows the Google Analytics 4 events you can track during the test. SEOTesting imports all default GA4 events and any custom events you've created, giving you visibility into user behavior before and after page changes.
