Data Studio Connector
What is the Data Studio Connector?
The Data Studio Connector for SEOTesting lets you import your SEO test results from SEOTesting directly into Data Studio.
Data Studio (formerly Looker Studio) is a free data visualisation tool that lets you build dashboards and reports, and the connector makes it easy to view your SEOTesting tests inside that environment. Once connected, your test data flows into Data Studio automatically, so you can see which tests are performing well and which aren't - all without manual exporting or copying data across.
Why use the Data Studio Connector?
Spreadsheets are good for crunching numbers, but less effective at communicating results to a client or a manager. The Data Studio Connector lets you present your SEO tests in clear, shareable dashboards, making it easier to demonstrate the value of your testing work to stakeholders.
Because the data updates automatically, you don't have to rebuild reports by hand each time. And once your tests are in Data Studio, you can display them alongside your other data sources to give a fuller picture of performance, then export or share the dashboard however your team or client prefers:
- Share the dashboard with clients and stakeholders
- Export the dashboard to PDF, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
- Use the dashboard to communicate the value of your tests
- Track the performance of multiple tests
You'll need your SEOTesting API key to connect the two services. You can find this in your SEOTesting account under 'Account Settings' > 'Your settings'. Scroll down to where it says 'API Key' where the key will then be visible.
*Keep your API key handy before you begin - Data Studio will ask for it during setup the first time you connect.
How to set up the Data Studio Connector
This short video will walk you through the setup - https://www.loom.com/share/589b924efbc24bc4b275cf30bb06c23c
Alternatively, follow the steps below:
Step 1 - Create a new data source
- In Data Studio, click Create, then choose Data source.
- In the connector search box at the top, search for "SEO" and select SEOTesting from the results.
Step 2 - Authorise the connection
The first time you connect, you'll be asked to authorise the connector. This simply lets Google know it will be communicating with SEOTesting. Click Authorize and then Allow to continue.
Step 3 - Enter your API key
If you haven't connected before, the connector will ask for your API key. Paste in the key from your SEOTesting account page. Once your key is recognised, you'll be able to select from your websites.
Step 4 - Choose your website and tests
Select the website you want to report on. You can then choose which tests to bring through:
- All tests
- Completed tests only
- Active tests only
Step 5 - Connect
Click 'Connect'. After a moment, Data Studio will display all the fields the connector brings back, including average position, click-through rate, clicks, and the dates involved.
Creating your report from the template
To help you get started, SEOTesting provides a ready-made template. After connecting, click 'Create Report' - the connector will use the template together with your data and create a copy of it for you.
Because SEOTesting simply provides the data, you're free to change the template however you like once it's created, just as with any Data Studio report, so it fits your own needs.
Using the dashboard:
- Once the report has loaded, you'll be able to see what's happening with your tests at a glance:

- The dashboard shows the number of tests, whether each test is completed or still running, and the test type (single, group, or switch), along with information on click changes, impressions, position, click-through rates, and queries.
- With your tests in Data Studio, you can quickly see which are performing well and which aren't, and use the dashboard to communicate the value of your testing to stakeholders. Dashboards can be exported and shared in the formats Data Studio supports.
- If you don't yet have an API key, or the connector doesn't recognise the one you've entered, check your account page in SEOTesting to confirm your key is active.
- Once the connector is set up, you can add your SEOTesting test data as a data source in Data Studio and build it into your dashboard.
Dashboards can be exported and shared in the formats Data Studio supports.
