Connecting SEOTesting to Claude via MCP

If you have previously used v1 of the SEOTesting MCP server that connected via URL & API key, you'll need to remove the connection and re-add it (using just https://mcp.seotesting.com as the URL). If the 'Approve' screen does not pop up in the browser when re-added, try clicking Disconnect, then Connect to re-establish and approve the authorization.

What does connecting SEOTesting to Claude Desktop via MCP help with?

If you spend time switching between SEOTesting and other tools to gather data, write up findings, and plan next steps, the Claude MCP integration removes most of that friction. Connecting SEOTesting to Claude Desktop lets you query your SEO data, analyse performance, create tests, and manage rank tracking using natural language - without navigating the app manually. It's particularly useful for speeding up reporting, getting quick answers about site performance, and moving from data to action in a single workflow.

Use the integration to speed up SEO workflows, get instant answers about site performance and test results, automate routine tasks such as creating tests or adding tracked keywords, and analyse your SEOTesting data through conversational AI.

Connecting SEOTesting to Claude Desktop via MCP Server

1. Add the MCP Server in Claude Desktop

In Claude Desktop: Open the app, click your Username in the bottom-left corner

Go to Settings > Connectors. Click Add Custom Connector, enter a name (e.g., SEOTesting), and the MCP URL: https://mcp.seotesting.com

2. Approve the connection
You'll be redirected to a browser session to approve the connection.

If you need to, log into SEOTesting using your username and password.

lick Approve and you are good to go. The user permissions you have in SEOTesting are passed through to the MCP Server, so you only get access to sites you can see in SEOTesting.

Claude on the web (claude.ai)

The steps are the same as Claude Desktop:

  1. Go to claude.ai and sign in.
  2. Click your initials in the bottom-left corner, then Settings > Connectors.
  3. Click Add custom connector and enter the URL: https://mcp.seotesting.com
  4. Click Add, then Connect. Your browser will open a SEOTesting sign-in and approval page — log in with your normal SEOTesting username and password and click Approve.
  5. Head back to a chat, and the SEOTesting tools are available under the connectors menu.

Connections made on claude.ai are shared with the Claude mobile apps on the same account.

Claude Code (terminal)

If you use Claude Code, add SEOTesting with one command:

claude mcp add --transport http seotesting https://mcp.seotesting.com

Then inside Claude Code, run /mcp, select seotesting, and choose Authenticate. Your browser opens the same SEOTesting sign-in and approval page; once you approve, the connection is saved for future sessions.

Start Using SEOTesting in Chat

Go to Chats in Claude Desktop and start a new chat.

Ask a question related to your SEOTesting account, for example:

“What sites do I have in SEOTesting?”
“What SEO tests have recently finished?”
“How has my site [domain name] performed?”

Claude will call SEOTesting MCP tools to retrieve the information.

The first time Claude uses any specific SEOTesting tool, a permission prompt will appear. Click Allow once or Always allow. If you select Always allow, Claude will not ask permission again for that specific tool. Each different MCP tool (API endpoint) will request permission the first time it is used.

4. View Site and Test Data

Once connected, you can query SEOTesting data for websites, completed SEO tests, performance summaries, traffic trends, content decay, and winning/losing pages.

Claude can also automatically choose the appropriate report (such as Content Decay) when analysing performance issues.

5. Create SEO Tests from Claude

You can create SEO tests directly from Claude Code. Example workflow:

  • Tell Claude you made a change to a page.
  • Provide the URL and optionally details about the change.
  • Claude will create a new SEO test in SEOTesting.

If no additional information is provided, the change date defaults to today and the test runs 8 weeks before and 8 weeks after the change.

Claude will also select the most appropriate test type, such as a time-based test for content updates. Once created, the test will appear in SEOTesting and will begin processing.

6. Add Keywords for Rank Tracking

You can ask Claude to add keywords for rank tracking and manage your tracked keyword lists in SEOTesting.

7. Current Limitations

**The MCP integration is currently a proof of concept, so some functionality is limited:
Deleting tests is not supported through MCP (to prevent accidental data loss).

Some features may still be expanding as new endpoints are added.**

8. View Available MCP Tools

You can ask Claude to list the currently supported MCP tools, for example:
“What MCP tools are available?”

This will return a list of the available endpoints you can use.

Request Additional Features

New MCP endpoints are relatively quick to add. If there are SEOTesting actions you would like supported, submit a feature request to the team.
