LLM Test - Setup Instructions

The LLM Test type in SEOTesting is a time-based test that allows you to see how many LLM referred sessions are recorded in GA4 before and after page changes.


To be able to run an LLM Test, you need to have the GA4 integration setup.


  1. From the LaunchPad in SEOTesting, navigate to the site you want to integrate with GA4.
  2. From that site's Dashboard, click on the 'Actions' button at the top of the screen and then select 'Edit'.
  3. When looking at the website's settings page, click on the Integrations tab
  4. In the Google Analytics 4 section, click the edit button on the right hand side. Here you need to enter the GA4 property ID, which you can find by logging into GA4 and go to Settings -> Property -> Property Details. The Property id will be displayed in the top right of the screen.
  5. Copy that property id into SEOTesting and click Save. You'll get a confirmation pop up in the top right of the screen to confirm this has been successfully saved and SEOTesting now has permission the GA4 property.


Creating an LLM Test

  1. Once you've made changes to a page you want to see cited more in LLM and AI overviews - set up an LLM test in SEOTesting to track the results.
  2. When on the SEOTesting dashboard for the site you are working with go to 'Tests' on the left-hand side panel, then click the 'edit' button on the right and then click 'create'. Select 'LLM Test' from the options.




Test set up

  1. On the test creation screen, give the test a name and a full description of the changes made to the page. Tag the test if you wish with the type of change you've made. (Tags are pre-defined and will auto-complete if you've used a value before).
  2. Upon clicking the Next button, you can select the LLM test type which can be Page or Site.
  3. If you have made a change to an individual page, use the Page test type. You will also need to add the exact match URL you have changed.
  4. If you've made changes to the entire site (for example - changed all structured data or main navigation), use the Site test type. Set the date the change was made.
  5. You can run back tests, so you can set up tests for historical changes when you set the test period. Usually the more data you have the better, but you may also want to work around big seasonal events that affect your site.Finally select the LLM types that you wish to track before and after.
  6. Select which LLM providers you wish to test, and then click 'Next'.
  7. Enter the date the change was made and the test period. There is also a date picker option, so you can move them around as needed.
  8. Click 'Create test'
