How to integrate Google Analytics (GA4) with SEOTesting.

Integrating Google Analytics with SEOTesting will open up 3 useful things:

1. Event data for time-based testing. This helps show business ROI of SEO changes and experiments.

2. LLM test type - run tests to see if changes to pages help them appear more often, and get more clicks, from LLMs such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini etc

3. LLM Traffic Pages report - see which URLs are getting clicks from LLMs

Steps to integrate SEOTesting with Google Analytics

The Google Analytics setting is a per-site setting, so it needs to be applied for each site.

1. From the Launchpad, or using the site switcher, click on the site you wish to set up with Google Analytics.

2. When looking at the dashboard, click the Edit button along the top.

3. In the site's settings page, click the integration tab.

4. Scroll down to the GA4 integration section. First you need to give SEOTesting permission to read Google Analytics data. Do this by clicking on the 'Allow GA4 Read Only Access' button. Follow the steps to give permission.

5. Once permission has been granted, you need to tell SEOTesting which property within Google Analytics to use to look up the data.

There are two ways to get the property id

• When in the correct GA4 property, click the settings icon to go to the admin section of GA4
• From the admin home screen, use the left nav menu to find Property -> Property details
• On the property details page you’ll see the property ID in the top right of the screen.
• Copy this ID.

OR

• When in the correct GA4 property, look at the URL in the browser address bar
• There will be a fragment of the URL that is in the format /p#######/ where the hashes represent the GA4 property ID.
• Copy this ID.
• Take the GA4 property ID you copied from GA4 and now add it to the property ID field that has become available in SEOTesting since you authorized GA4 access

Upon entering the property ID and clicking the Save button, SEOTesting will check it has the necessary permissions to GA4, and if successful you’ll see a Saved message appear in the top right corner of the app.
