# Unclear Headings Checker

## **What is the Unclear Headings Checker?**
The **Unclear Headings Checker** finds headings that don't explain what the section actually answers. Clear headings help readers scan a page and help search systems understand the role of each section; vague ones do neither. The tool flags weak headings and suggests clearer alternatives.

## **Why is this useful?**
Headings are signposts. A heading like "Things to Know" tells a reader nothing and gives an AI system no clue about what the section contains. Descriptive headings make a page easier to scan, easier to understand, and easier for search systems to map to the questions people ask.
**Example:** replace "Things to Know" with "CRM Migration Costs for Small Teams".

## **How does the Unclear Headings Checker work?**
The tool reviews the headings on your page and flags those that are vague or non-descriptive, suggesting clearer alternatives that describe what each section actually covers.

## **How to run a check**
* From your dashboard, click the 'select your website' dropdown at the top of the page and choose your site. Select **Labs** from the left-hand menu.

* Scroll down to find **Unclear Headings Checker**.
* Enter the **URL** of the page you want to check:

* Click **Analyze Content**. The tool then reviews your headings and flags the unclear ones with suggested alternatives.
* Review each suggestion and rewrite the heading to describe what the section answers.

## **Tips for getting the most out of it**
* **Write headings as answers, not labels.** A heading that names the specific thing the section resolves is easier to scan and easier to surface.
* **Use the suggestions as a starting point.** Adapt them to your own wording and the specifics of your page rather than pasting them in verbatim.
* **Check headings after a content edit.** Rewrites often leave old, now-inaccurate headings behind.
