My Content Group is missing data
This guide will help you understand why data isn't showing up on your Content Group.
Google Search Console reporting data is usually 48 hours behind.
Since we use Google Search Console API to display data about your site, we must wait for GSC to make data available before updating your content group.
The most common reason your content group hasn't been updated is that we don't have confirmed data from the Google Search Console for the period - week or month, depending on the group update frequency.
For weekly content groups, SEOTesting needs the complete data for the week from Monday to Sunday before updating the group.
With the two day delay, this usually means that weekly content groups will update on a Tuesday.
For monthly groups, SEOTesting needs the complete data for the month from the 1st until the last day before updating.
With the two day delay, this usually means that monthly content groups will update on the 2nd/3rd of the next month.
For both cases, we only start updating content groups when we have the complete data.
As soon as more data is marked as confirmed on GSC, our tool will get the most recent data for your site and start the update process.
SEOTesting will automatically check if more recent data for your site is available, and when the data is available, it should only take a few minutes for the content group to update.
On weekly content groups, SEOTesting displays a label for each week, going from Monday to Sunday, in the following format:
- Monday, (month) (day) to Sunday, (month) (day), (year).
For example:
Monday, Sep 23 to Sunday, Sep 29, 2024.
Monday, Sep 16 to Sunday, Sep 22, 2024.
So, if you look at your graph and see that SEOTesting hasn't updated with data from the last week (Monday to Sunday), it means that SEOTesting still doesn't have data for the entire week.
Google Search Console data reporting is usually 48 hours behind, and this means that your weekly content groups will usually update on Tuesdays (when SEOTesting gets data for Sunday).
If you see more recent dates on Google Search Console than SEOTesting, it is likely that the GSC data is still labeled as 'Fresh data'.
SEOTesting doesn't import fresh data as this data isn't definitive and may change.
So, we recommend you confirm on the GSC graph if the 'Fresh data' label appears for the more recent dates.
In very rare cases, Google Search Console data may be stuck and lag behind by more than 48 hours.
If you suspect Google Search Console data is stuck, check the 'Last updated' label on the right side of the Performance Report.
When this label shows a number bigger than 48 hours, it's the likely case of GSC having reporting issues and populating the tool with the most recent data.
We recommend you pay attention to the Google Search Central account for announcements and the GSC status page for any extra information about potential issues with Google systems.
We also wrote a guide about what to do when GSC data is stuck that you can read.
If this is the scenario, there isn't much else to do, and we will have to wait for Google to resolve the reporting issues.
Ultimately, this is most likely a delay in reporting instead of a complete data loss.
