My annotations are missing

This guide will help you understand the common reasons why you cannot find an annotation.

First, let's understand what happens when you create an annotation.

What happens when you create an annotation?

When you create an annotation, it will immediately appear in the SEOTesting app's 'Annotations' and 'Site Changelog' sections.

Depending on the annotation type selected, they might appear only on some graphs.

The 4 types of annotations possible are:
- Page: this annotation will only appear on the Page Details report graphs.
- Query: this annotation will only appear on the Query Details report graphs.
- Site: a site annotation will appear on all the graphs of the SEOTesting app.
- Content groups: this annotation will only appear on the respective content group graph.

GSC data is lagging behind

Google Search Console data is usually 48 hours behind in reporting.

So, if you created an annotation for your site with "today's" date, it may take around 48 hours for SEOTesting to have the more recent data and show the annotation on the graphs.

In this scenario, please wait for Google Search Console to provide the more recent data, and then SEOTesting will display your annotation on the graphs.

If your annotation appears on the 'Annotations' tab, with the correct date, there's nothing to worry about.

The annotation doesn't appear on the graphs

If you notice an annotation missing on a date that it should appear on, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Is the annotation set to 'Displays On Graphs' true?

Is the annotation set to "Display On Graphs" True?

If it is set to "Displays On Graphs" false, you should press the 'Edit' button and check the "Displays On Graphs" box, like in the screenshot below.

Check the box and save to make it appear on graphs

Step 2: Are the Annotations set to appear on the graphs?

It's possible to turn annotations on or off with a toggle located at the top of the graphs.

If you aren't seeing an annotation, please click the toggle until you see the text 'on' appearing. This should be enough for your annotations to appear.

Step 3: Are you looking at the right graph?

Different annotation types will appear on different graphs of the SEOTesting app.

Please make sure you are looking for the annotation on the graph it should appear.

Please check the previous section of this guide to know where the annotations are expected to appear.
